Hand on Heart

Find a moment of quiet. Place a warm palm over your heart area. Feel its beat and warmth under your hand. Don’t try to change it; just stay with this sensation for 90 seconds, breathing naturally. What happens to your heart rhythm when you’re simply attentive to it?

Does this sound like you?

  • Your body feels on alert even when nothing is wrong.
  • Your shoulders live somewhere near your ears.
  • Breathing apps help for a minute, then it's back.
  • You're exhausted, but you can't switch off.

Why a vagus nerve reset starts with feeling, not forcing

The vagus nerve connects your brain with your heart, lungs and gut. It is part of the system that helps your body shift out of alert and into rest. That shift can't be forced. It happens when your body receives enough signals that it's safe.

Some of the simplest signals are physical: warm, steady touch, a long slow exhale, a gentle hum you can feel in your chest. They don't need effort or perfect technique. They work through attention, not willpower.

That's why the Hand on Heart practice asks you to change nothing. You place your palm on your chest, feel the warmth and the beat, and stay. You may notice a small softening. You may notice nothing at first, and that's okay too.

Inside WholeBing, this is the Feel path: short practices that help a body on alert learn, step by step, that it's allowed to rest.
